Contemporary Art Gallery is showcasing the paintings artist Lynden Wilcoxson during September. The exhibit “In Three” is a selection of old and new paintings and assemblages that are connected. Three pieces will be similar in style and shape, or they may be part of a series. There are also several triptychs featured.

“I enjoy the process of painting and building. I especially like finding a subject or object that can be broken down into its design elements and rebuilt in an interesting way,” Lynden says. “My art is not done in a ‘vacuum,’ but is inspired by my environment -- an idea, object, story or event.  Hopefully, one seeing my art will be positively inspired, entertained or intrigued.”

Lynden, a retired educater, has been painting and drawing since childhood. In college, he minored in art and majored in music, and he has participated in art workshops through the years. He is a past president of the Oklahoma Watercolor Association and has shown in many local shows and several national shows. The artist has painted in oil, watercolor, and acrylics, and prefers working in acrylics for its fast drying time and the look achieved by layering coats of paint.

An opening reception is planned at the gallery during the Paseo Arts District’s First Friday gallery walk, from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 7. The public is invited to attend, meet the artist, see his works as well as works by other gallery members, and enjoy light refreshments and live music. The show runs through Sept. 30.
